There’s something extra sweet about sitting with your child at breakfast on the very first day of school. This morning, as he sat across from me with his backpack waiting by the door, I couldn’t help but think back on all the little ways he grew over the summer.

Summer has its own kind of magic. From June to September, kids seem to stretch taller, braver, and wiser in just a few short months. Long days outside, scraped knees, berry-stained fingers, late-night giggles, and endless exploring somehow turn them into a slightly older, more mature version of themselves by the time fall rolls around. I’ve watched him discover new words, sharpen his thoughts, and let his personality bloom even brighter. His language and pronunciation have taken off, but even more so, his empathy and intuition have deepened. He has become more thoughtful, more understanding, and even more fiercely loving toward his friends and family.

As his mama, I sit in awe of who he is becoming. He is kind, supportive, and so deeply loyal to his people. Watching him step into this next season of growth feels both tender and proud—like holding onto the little boy he still is while glimpsing the big-hearted person he is becoming.

So today, as he begins another school year, I pray over him: God, bless his school year and watch over him. Continue to inspire his kindness and confidence. Place teachers in his life who see his potential and encourage him daily. Surround him with friendships that bring out his best and protect his spirit as he learns and grows. Help him shine Your light wherever he goes. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.

This is the bittersweet beauty of parenthood—watching them grow right before our eyes, and realizing each season is a treasure all its own.
